Victor "NICK" Nichols
Victor James "Nick" Nichols, 62 of Jacksonville, died March 25 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be held at noon Wednesday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. A memorial service of worship will follow at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Neil H. Bain officiating.
Nichols was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., but considered Jacksonville his home after joining the U.S. Marines Corps as a young man. He served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star for bravery. After his Marine Corps career, he was a special needs teacher and speech therapist in Onslow County schools for 16 years.
He is survied by his wife Blanche Helm Nichols of the home; a daughter, Patricia Frances Staley and grandson, Matthew of Hagerstown MD.; a son, Robert Helm Nichols of Cary; and four brothers, Edward Nichols of North Valley Stream, N.Y., Billy Nichols of Brooklyn N.Y., Tony Nichols of Ellesmere, Del., and Jimmy Nichols of Miami Fla.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Nichols be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at 400 Bayshore Boulevard, Jackson, 28540
